  3.  What kind of strings are used on Celebrity and Elite T Bass guitars?
Our Celebrity and Ovation Elite T basses use bass strings with these gauges:
    4-String basses: .040-.055-.075-.095
    5-String basses: .040-.055-.075-.095-.120
  4.  What kinds of strings are used on Ukuleles?
All Applause soprano ukuleles are strung with string set # YB-J65 made by D'Addario.
  5.  What kinds of strings are used on the VXT?
    We use D'Addarrio YBXL-110, medium/light.

  6.  What kinds of strings are used on Ovation Guitars?
We use D'Addario EXP16 (.012-.053) Phosphor Bronze strings on our guitars. Another string we like is the Adamas 1818 (.012-.053) Phosphor Bronze. Our 12-string models use D'Addario EXP38 (.010-.047). You can use whatever string suits your playing style. Heavier or lighter strings might require a truss rod adjustment.

D'Addario Pro Arte (EJ46) hard tension strings are used on USA-made Ovation nylon string guitars. We also like the Adamas 4444 or the Savarez Alliance high tension.
  7.  What is the Ovation #9658 activation cable?
The XLR "activation" cable is an XLR-XLR configuration that makes the shell (handle)-to-pin 1(Ground) connection. This connection should always be made with such cables, but as a cost savings, often it is not grounded. Ovations use an XLR output jack that allows the preamp to switch on when the XLR cable is inserted by using this shell to connect the negative pole of the battery to the preamp circuit.
  8.  My preamp only works when the tuner is switched on with the XLR connection.
You either need to USE the Ovation cable #9658 or any other cable with a ground to shell connection. Or you need to activate the system by inserting a 1/4 inch plug then you can use any XLR cable.
  9.  How can I get parts for my guitar?
Contact your place of purchase to order parts. You need to provide the model and serial number of the product and a copy of your sales receipt if the part is under warranty.
  10.  Is my warranty transferable?
No, all KMC Music warranty policies are valid only to the original purchaser with a warranty card on file or a copy of the original sales receipt as proof of purchase.

  11.  What if my guitar is not repairable?
KMC Music will replace the item with another one of equal value. In the case of a discontinued model, KMC Music will replace the item with another of equal or more value.
  12.  How long does it take to get a warranty service evaluation?
The dealer or service center must contact KMC Music for a Return Authorization (RMA) number and shipping instructions. As a consumer, you are responsible for shipping charges to return the product to KMC Music. Once in the possession of KMC Music the evaluation normally takes 2-3 days.
  13.  What happens after the evaluation?
KMC Music determines if the product is repairable and will repair it under the terms of the warranty policy for that product. The product will be returned to the dealer or service center, prepaid.
  14.  What if my place of purchase is out of business or in another state?
Use our website's search engines to find a local Authorized Dealer or Service Center for your product. Then contact them with a copy of your sales receipt and request a warranty service evaluation.
  15.  Who do I contact for warranty service for my guitar?
You need to contact your place of purchase with a copy of your sales receipt and request a warranty service evaluation. The dealer or service center should then contact KMC Music and request a Return Authorization number.

  19.  Do you make Left Handed guitars?
Why, yes we do! Here are the current left-handed stock models for Ovation.

  20.  What does a Limited Lifetime Warranty Policy really mean?
Our Limited Lifetime warranty policy means that for the first 2 years you own the product, KMC Music will cover all parts and labor for anything deemed defective. After that initial 2 year period, KMC Music will cover the parts for anything deemed defective as long as you own the product, but now the consumer is responsible for any labor charges incurred in the repair.

Please Note: All electronics, machine heads and strings are not covered under warranty.

  21.  Do you have replacement necks for Matrix guitars?
Matrix guitars with aluminum core neck/fingerboards were discontinued by 1980. Due to the age of the instrument, original replacement parts are no longer available. You may want to contact the Ovation factory for a suitable replacement neck, however, it may not be cost effective to do so. Their number is (860) 379-7575.

  23.  What is the value of my Ovation guitar?
Neither KMC Music nor Ovation Instruments provide information on used guitar prices or values for any of our products since we are not in the business of purchasing and selling used instruments. We recommend that you consult a knowledgeable music store that buys and sells used instruments. There are many music stores and websites that deal in used guitars. With a little research, these sources could help you determine your guitars worth. We also recommend that you visit Orion Blue Books online at www.orionbluebook.com. They are a widely used resource in our industry and have listings for thousands of guitars!
