A Dream Team: Kimberlye Gold and Her Ovation Guitars

Kimberlye Gold is a San Francisco Bay Area–based rhythm guitarist, singer, songwriter, entertainer, bandleader, and recording artist — and a longtime Ovation player. Her deep love for music across multiple genres and decades shines through her dynamic “combo platter” of pop, rock, R&B, and country, blending original songs with inspired covers.

A San Francisco native, Kimberlye discovered her lifelong connection to Ovation while living in New York City, when a friend lent her a 1983 B Series Limited Edition Ovation guitar. That instrument soon became her own and has been by her side since 1993. It proved to be a trusted companion during her years living and working in the trenches of Nashville, as well as stints in Los Angeles and across the U.S., collaborating with luminary musicians, producers, and songwriters connected to iconic artists such as Steely Dan, Tower of Power, and Boz Scaggs.

Now back in the SF Bay Area as a full-time working musician — from intimate solo performances to leading her full bands, while continuously writing and recording new material — Kimberlye has recently found her new match in the 2025 Ovation Celebrity Exotic Selection. Drawn to its stunning sunburst finish, rich tone, and player-friendly features, the guitar has reignited her passion for music and performing, elevating her playing in real time.

Kimberlye has lovingly christened her new Ovation guitar “Penny” — a nod to the ancient Greek story of Odysseus and Penelope from Homer’s The Odyssey, as well as her own penny-tinted red hair. She proudly showcases “Penny” at every opportunity, from solo gigs to full-band performances and everything in between.

At this chapter of her life, becoming an endorsed artist for Ovation Guitars has been deeply and profoundly empowering — proof that reinvention is always possible, and that it’s never too late to keep reaching for the stars and beyond.
